Students will be encouraged to further build on their experiences of Romeo and Juliet from KS3 and to critically explore the ideas within Romeo and Juliet by exploring: themes, characters, key scenes and context. Students will develop their ability to respond critically to ideas and perspectives from within a play text. They will also develop their decoding skills and their ability to comment on a play whilst utilising an increasingly sophisticated range of terminology in their analysis. Students will revise the requirements for the Shakespeare question on English Literature Paper 1 |
Students will be encouraged to critically explore the ideas within An Inspector Calls will be encouraged to comment upon those ideas. Students will develop their ability to respond critically to ideas and perspectives from within a Modern Play text. They will also develop their decoding skills and their ability to comment on a play whilst utilising an increasingly sophisticated range of terminology in their analysis. This term will also see students apply their non-fiction skills to a range of texts from modern journalism, pre 20th Century texts and texts from previous exam papers. |
Language Paper 2 and Speaking and listening The study of sophisticated Non-Fiction becomes a focus as this term sees the students applying their skills to analysing and producing writing from a point of view. They will then switch modes and prepare to deliver these points of view and field questions from their audience. |
In this term, the students’ independent voices commenting on a range of current affairs, are refined and performed in line with the AQA speaking and listening component for their GCSE. Some of these might also be based around the study of the AQA poetry anthology that forms the basis of their poetry studies. |
