  • A wonderful start to Maths at KSHS!

    Published 22/09/22

The Maths department would like to take this opportunity to say how very impressed we are with the fantastic attitude our pupils have arrived to lessons with this term, it’s so pleasing to see! Our new Year 7s have arrived ready to learn with many having completed the summer challenge work-all of these pupils have received merits.

In the upcoming weeks our sixth form pupils will undertake the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, we wish them well with this, and also hope this will invigorate our younger pupils when they participate in the Intermediate and Junior challenges later this year. We had great individual success with the challenges last year and hope to build upon this.

Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage parents and carers to read through the pupil Maths booklets together. Within this document is a comprehensive list of what equipment should be brought to each lesson, as well as what students are learning now and in upcoming terms.

We look forward to an exciting rest of the term!

  • Club and Activities - Freshers Fayre

    Published 22/09/22

The High School is proud to offer a wide and varied selection of extracurricular clubs and the Freshers' Fayre a couple of weeks ago gave all our students the opportunity to browse the Clubs’ stalls and sign up. Extracurricular activities play a vital role in shaping young people and can greatly enhance their overall school experiences by learning new skills, boosting confidence, widening social interactions and providing the chance to represent their school.  With the help of student volunteers and our great sixth from subject prefects, our Freshers' Fayre marked the official launch of clubs for Terms 1&2.  There will be a mini re-launch of clubs at the beginning of Terms 3 and 5, giving further opportunities for students to sign up and try something different. Please scroll down to see the full range of clubs. Thanks for supporting you child to get involved.

  • Library News

    Published 22/09/22

This year we are trialing a new system to help with the retrieval of borrowed library resources. All parents / carers have recently received a letter outlining the changes, which are in line with the Robert Carre Trust becoming cashless. Our students are very good at returning their library books and textbooks on time, but inevitably some books do get forgotten and this directly impacts on our collections. The school library does not operate a fine system for overdue items as this can act as a barrier to successful and confident borrowing within an educational setting. However, for books that are lost, damaged beyond repair or long overdue (6 weeks or more without reasonable explanation) we will be placing a replacement charge on the Parentpay account. Alternatively, if the item remains unreturned parents may wish to replace it with a like for like copy. Students will receive both email and verbal reminders if they have items overdue, and I encourage any student to visit the library in person if they are unsure about any aspects of their library borrower account.

  • Growth Mindset

    Published 21/07/22

Staff are invited to nominate students who have demonstrated a Growth Mindset in the past few weeks. This might have been in lessons, in clubs, in tutor time or simply around school. Please note we already award bi-annual subject badges and merits for good academic work, effort and improvement. These Growth Mindset nominations recognise those who show resilience (academic or otherwise); who aren’t afraid to get things wrong and learn from it; those who have a go, take themselves out of their comfort zone or show that even if a task is tough they will persevere.
