Term 6 - 8 July 2022

Dear Parent/Carer

If you follow our school Twitter feed @KSHSSA you will get news of students’ achievements – past and present - and updates as they happen. Last week for example Year 5 and Year 6 parents/carers could see their children enjoying the induction and taster days, whilst parents/carers of Sixth Formers could catch a glimpse of the Year 13 prom venue, see inside the Sheffield University open day or see how the Year 12 induction day went. Whilst we post some news on our Instagram and Facebook sites, Twitter is our social media platform of choice. We are always grateful when parents or friends of the school ‘retweet’ or ‘like’ postings and we are keen to top 1000 followers before Christmas comes. Thanks to those who have already participated this year. Do join in if you can.

Prospective parents/carers had a more face to face experience however this week, at our Open Week events. Each morning parents/carers were able to see the school at work, visiting classrooms, seeing lessons happening and getting a feel for the school environment. On Tuesday evening all subjects welcomed parents/carers and Year 5 students to our Open Evening. My thanks go to all those students who acted as tour guides or welcomed visitors and to those parents/carers who were much appreciated taxi drivers on the evening too. My thanks also go to Poppy, Ruby and Molly who spoke in the hall as part of the presentation, and to our brilliant musicians who entertained parents/carers as they waited. I have the easiest job in the word explaining why the High School is a brilliant place to learn when our articulate, engaging and enthusiastic students are the school’s best advert! Anyone who missed the evening, and would like to see the presentation, can find the slides here.

Our last newsletter of the academic year will be published in two weeks’ time. Until then do have a look at what has been going on over the past two weeks as well as some helpful reminders.

Mrs J Smith

Head of School

Celebrating Academic and Sporting Success, Progress and Effort - Junior Prizegiving - 22 July 2022 – St Denys’ Church

Parents/Carers of prizewinning students in Years 7-10 will have received an invitation via the My Child at School (MCAS) App as well as through the post to our last day of term events at St Denys’ Church, Sleaford. We are keen to welcome as many parents/carers of prize winners as possible and so all students will be attending one of two ceremonies this year to ensure there is space in the church for parents/carers. Years 7-8 will celebrate from 9.15-10.15am and Years 9-10 from 11am-midday. Mr Nick Gibbons, Chair of Governors will be presenting the badges which will be awarded for a range of reasons including academic achievement, consistent effort or improvement in the subject. Sports colours will also be presented. Headteacher’s Awards are given to students who are nominated for prizes in five subjects or more.

Subject Badges and Sports Colours are just two of the ways we recognise students’ success throughout the year and ones that remained well supported by the student body in a recent review. I am also delighted to have signed almost 900 Years 7-13 Growth Mindset Awards this academic year, along with House point certificates for younger students.

Last Day of Term Picnic

As well as attending the morning Junior Prizegiving Ceremonies at St Denys’ Church, and after the success of last year’s event, students in Years 7-10 will celebrate the end of the academic year with an end of term afternoon picnic on the school field. Please provide your child with some suitable snacks for this event to share with friends, or if they have an allergy or food intolerance, pack them an individual picnic. Students are advised to bring a water bottle as well as sunscreen and something to sit on.  Full uniform (with PE brought by those who need it) is required on this day.

Governor News

We are delighted to report that Sarah Ray, one of our KSHS parents, has just been appointed to the Local Governance Tier and will take up the role of Community Governor from 1 September.

Following the recent call for Parent Governors, we still have opportunities for two new positions from September so please look out for the nomination papers which will be sent out at the start of next term.
